Job Description

The Department is seeking a highly skilled Professional to undertake the role of Principal Environmental Officer.

This position will be aligned to the Minerals Business Centre, Environmental Services and Regulation which is responsible for undertaking statutory assessment functions for mineral mining and downstream mineral mining projects across Queensland.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertake assessments and make decisions on applications related to environmental authorities, progressive rehabilitation and closure plans, and estimated rehabilitation costs.
  • Provide expert advice on geological and geochemical matters related to industrial and mining processes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of regulatory requirements.
Requirements

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Relevant qualifications and experience in geology and/or geochemistry.
  • Understanding of matters such as mining waste management, storage and disposal.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders.
