Leadership in Scalable Backend Systems

We are seeking a skilled and experienced software engineer to lead our backend team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in JVM-based languages such as Java or Kotlin.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop scalable backend systems that support complex enterprise needs and growing business requirements.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand technical needs, identify opportunities for system improvements, and turn them into reliable solutions.
  • Mentor and support other engineers — role-modeling engineering excellence, sharing feedback, and helping build a culture of technical growth.
  • Shape user experiences by exploring product ideas, testing technical possibilities, and building solutions that meet the needs of large-scale organisations.
  • Help teams navigate ambiguity — identifying trade-offs, guiding technical direction, and bringing clarity when the product scope is evolving.
  • Champion operational excellence, from resolving complex backend issues and improving observability to participating in on-call rotations.
  • Guide architecture decisions for high-volume, high-data services — ensuring what we build is robust, scalable, and enterprise-ready.
  • Bring in fresh thinking by staying across industry trends and sharing ideas that enhance how we build.
Requirements:
  • Operated at Senior Engineer level, with deep expertise in JVM-based languages such as Java or Kotlin.
  • Designed and led backend strategies for large-scale distributed systems — optimised for performance and reliability.
  • Systems thinker who thrives in ambiguity, using sound judgment to drive clarity, navigate trade-offs, and align cross-functional teams on complex challenges.
  • Technical leader and multiplier — mentoring engineers, raising engineering standards, and championing scalable practices across multiple teams.
  • Skilled communicator who translates evolving product goals into clear technical strategies and executable milestones.
