Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Building Services Engineer to collaborate with the Senior Building Services Engineer within the Installation and Facilities Management Group. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the Mechanical Building Services Infrastructure team, providing essential LEV support throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the technical assessment and comprehension of proposed alterations or enhancements to existing systems, including the production of technical reports.
  • Support the generation of specifications and analysis of tenders for medium-sized installation contracts, encompassing pre-tender and post-contract project management, planning, cost control, payment certification, and test witnessing, while closely coordinating with the procurement department.
  • Engage in problem-solving and fault diagnosis across all site mechanical services, including air conditioning, chilled water, process cooling water, hot and cold-water systems, MTHW/LTHW systems, compressed air, refrigeration, drainage, industrial gases, and associated control systems.
  • Assist in the installation and maintenance of infrastructure LEV systems in accordance with HSG258 standards.
  • Support the group and provide guidance to scientific equipment owners/users on compliance with the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR), developing procedures that include testing and change control (training will be provided).
  • Collaborate with and assist in supervising external consultants, contractors, service engineers, and suppliers, including overseeing design and build contracts.
  • Assist in the management and supervision of commissioning for small to medium-sized projects to ensure adherence to relevant building services codes of practice.
  • Contribute to the development of operational systems for building services and advise senior management on the pros and cons of relevant proposals.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of all Quality Assurance documentation.
  • Conduct safety risk assessments and prepare method statements or evaluate third-party safety submissions.
  • Participate in Health and Safety and Quality Assurance procedures as appropriate to the role.
  • Assist with additional related duties to fulfill the needs of the Installation and Facilities Management Group.

On-Call Requirement:

This role may occasionally require being 'on call'.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of an ONC qualification in Building Services Engineering or an equivalent qualification. Relevant on-the-job experience will also be considered.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience with MTHW, LTHW, chilled/process cooling water, compressed air, drainage, and domestic water systems.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and LEV systems.
  • Familiarity with Health and Safety legislation.
  • Understanding of PSSR2000 Regulations and LEV (HSG258).
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet project timelines.
  • Experience with Quality Control Systems, Work Planning, and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Proven ability to supervise others effectively.
