Aboriginal People and Culture Specialist


This role offers an exciting chance to make a meaningful impact in the Department of Customer Service.


The successful candidate will provide expert advice, coaching, and mentoring to Aboriginal employees and people leaders across our portfolio, ensuring approaches are inclusive, respectful, and aligned with Aboriginal cultural values and practices.


Key responsibilities include providing culturally informed HR advice, coaching, and mentoring on a range of workplace matters, working in close partnership with specialist teams to support safe outcomes for Aboriginal and other employees, and developing and delivering informative training sessions to empower leaders.


About the Opportunity

This role plays a key part in delivering specialized case management with a focus on customer service to support Aboriginal employees across the Department of Customer Service.


We are seeking candidates with demonstrated experience supporting Aboriginal employees in the workplace, with a strong understanding of the diverse issues they may encounter, including cultural sensitivities, protocols, and their impact on workplace engagement and outcomes.


A typical day of work for you might include
  • Providing culturally informed HR advice, coaching, and mentoring to Aboriginal employees and people leaders across our portfolio group on a range of workplace matters, including but not limited to conflict resolution, performance concerns, and grievance management - ensuring approaches are inclusive, respectful, and aligned with Aboriginal cultural values and practices.
  • Working in close partnership with the P&C specialist teams - including our Professional Standards and Conduct and Industrial Relations and Safety & Risk and Health and Recovery teams - to support safe outcomes for Aboriginal and other employees.
  • Developing and delivering informative and engaging training sessions to empower leaders.
  • Identifying continuous improvement opportunities, enhancing our service delivery to improve customer outcomes by assessing and updating methods, procedures, and processes.
