About the Opportunity:

Tradewind Australia is proud to collaborate with an alternative school in Melton, offering a unique chance for educators who want to make a difference. This innovative school caters to secondary students at risk of disengaging from mainstream education in the local areas.

Focused on Student Success

  • This 0.6 (three day) role involves delivering tailored lessons, improving literacy and numeracy skills, and supporting students' transition back into mainstream schooling or alternative pathways.
  • The ideal candidate will be compassionate, adaptable, and caring, with a passion for inspiring disengaged students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop engaging lesson plans aligned with students' abilities, focusing on foundational skills and interests.
  • Customize curriculum delivery to meet diverse learning needs, ensuring each student has access to meaningful experiences.
  • Establish positive relationships with students who may have experienced trauma or educational barriers.
  • Act as a mentor and advocate, fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Address behavioral challenges with patience and strategies aimed at de-escalation and positive reinforcement.
  • Collaborate with wellbeing teams to support students' socio-emotional needs.
  • Design hands-on activities to re-engage students in the learning process.
  • Utilize flexible teaching methods, including project-based and experiential learning.
  • Work closely with school counselors, social workers, and other support staff to provide holistic care for students.
  • Regularly assess and document student progress academically, socially, and behaviorally.
  • Engage in ongoing training specific to trauma-informed practices, behavior management, and inclusive education strategies.

What We Offer:

  • A competitive salary range of $80,000 - $110,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.
  • Commencement from Term 1, with a 0.6 (three day) role.
  • Small class sizes of around 10 students and at least one ES person.
  • A flexible and adaptable school environment to meet the needs of students.
  • A student-centered approach with wonderful support for all new joining staff.
