In this rewarding role, you will join a dedicated team at an alternative school in the Melton area, supporting students who require a unique educational pathway. As an Alternative Education Teacher, your primary goal is to re-engage students in their learning journey, leveraging personalized education aligned with the Victorian Curriculum.

This 0.8 (four days a week) fixed-term position commences in Term 1, offering a wonderful opportunity for teachers to make a lasting impact on students' lives. Your focus will be on years 10 and 11, assisting students in achieving a pathways certificate that can open doors to trades and work opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tailored lessons to meet students' diverse academic abilities, focusing on foundational literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Adapt curriculum delivery to accommodate different learning styles and needs, ensuring each student has access to meaningful educational experiences.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on projects, excursions, and activities to enhance learning and understanding.
  • Establish trust and positive relationships with students who may have experienced trauma, disengagement, or educational barriers.
  • Act as a mentor and advocate, fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Address behavioral challenges with patience and strategies aimed at de-escalation and positive reinforcement.
  • Work closely with wellbeing teams to support students' socio-emotional needs.
  • Design engaging, hands-on activities to re-engage students in the learning process.
  • Utilize flexible teaching methods, including project-based and experiential learning.
  • Regularly assess and document student progress academically, socially, and behaviorally.
  • Engage in ongoing training specific to trauma-informed practices, behavior management, and inclusive education strategies.

Requirements:

  • A strong background in teaching at Primary/Secondary level in Australia
  • Current VIT registration is essential
  • Understanding of the VPC (Vic Pathways Curriculum) is crucial
  • Experience working with students with additional needs is highly advantageous
  • Ability to provide contact details for two education-based references from within the last 5 years
