Role Summary and Purpose

The Senior Underwriter is responsible for managing a portfolio of business within set underwriting guidelines and authority levels. This includes mentoring and developing underwriters and reporting to senior management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite new and existing business within company policies and underwriting standards.
  • Prepare reports on portfolio performance and maintain credit control.
  • Participate in audits, peer reviews, and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure accurate and complete documentation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to maximize underwriting opportunities and minimize expenses.
  • Underwrite Professional Indemnity products in accordance with Arch Guidelines.
  • Maintain and develop key broker relationships.
  • Provide timely service and administration of tasks.
  • Develop and execute new business opportunities.
  • Work with senior underwriters and management on future product development.
  • Assist with implementing distribution strategies and identifying cross-sell opportunities.
  • Comply with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Apply sound underwriting practices to new business, mid-term alterations, and renewal management.

Senior Team Member Responsibilities:

  • Assist the manager in supervising team members.
  • Provide training, guidance, and mentoring.
  • Support the manager in overseeing work.
  • Act as a local leader and role model.

General Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other business units.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as directed.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Experience in financial services with knowledge of legislative frameworks.
  • Demonstrable ability to grow a profitable portfolio.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Tertiary qualifications desirable but not essential.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software.
  • Organized and methodical approach to working practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Australian insurance regulatory environment.
  • Sound analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and contributing to a team.
  • Ability to work autonomously and provide high-level service to external stakeholders.
