We are seeking a highly skilled Research Specialist to contribute to our team of scientists.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in interdisciplinary research, with expertise in ancient DNA analysis and bioinformatics. They will be responsible for constructing and analyzing a DNA reference database for native flora on Kangaroo Island, as well as analyzing ancient DNA from sediments to develop novel records of vegetation change over the last 10,000 years.

  • PhD or equivalent degree is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in ancient DNA analysis and bioinformatic processing is essential.
  • An excellent publication record in international, peer-reviewed journals is expected.
  • Expertise in one or more of botany, fire ecology, landscape ecology, palaeoecology, climate change, paleoclimates, environmental change, or similar disciplines is desirable.

Fostering collaboration with colleagues and students working on sedimentology, geochronology, palynology, isotopes, and organic geochemistry is an important aspect of this role.

Supervising students and contributing to synthesizing project outcomes to inform sustainable fire management and biodiversity conservation is also a key responsibility.
