Job Overview

The Senior Legal Officer plays a crucial role in providing high-level legal advice to senior officials and liaising with government agencies.

This position requires expertise in various areas of law, including commercial, property, employment, human rights, civil litigation, and intellectual property.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Advice: Provide expert advice on legal, policy, and process issues to ensure effective delivery of departmental services.
  • Court Representation: Coordinate and represent departmental submissions to Courts and Tribunals, developing systems to support interactions with the Court and Tribunals.
  • Collaboration and Liaison: Consult and liaise with service delivery officers, Crown Law, other departments, and court registries to ensure beneficial outcomes for the State.
Additional Duties:
  • Policy Development: Assist the General Counsel in developing efficient policies and procedures, managing departmental resources, and researching emerging legal issues affecting the Department.
  • Team Collaboration: Participate in fostering a team environment, actively contributing to business outcomes, and supporting change in processes, procedures, and systems.
