We are seeking a highly organized and friendly Library Assistant to join our dynamic team at Orange City Council. As a key member of our Central West Libraries team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional customer service to library patrons and supporting the daily operations of our libraries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide lending and basic information services to library patrons, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment.
  • Operate the Library Management System (LMS) for circulation and enquiry functions, maintaining accurate records and ensuring efficient services.
  • Assist patrons to use IT resources and applications, promoting digital literacy and empowering our community.
  • Shelve and tidy resources accurately, maintaining a well-organized and easily accessible library environment.
  • Take payments and ensure accurate cash handling, upholding our high standards of financial management.

Requirements

  • Previous library experience is desirable, but not essential. Volunteer experience at your school library is also valued.
  • Well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with staff and the community.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and contribute as part of a team, supporting our collaborative and inclusive culture.
  • Digital literacy skills in the use of a variety of technology, including applications and systems used within libraries.
  • Ability and availability to work within a roster that includes evenings and weekends, ensuring our libraries are accessible to all.
  • A current Working with Children Check clearance number and satisfactory criminal record check if aged 18 or over.
