Data Strategist

Seeking a seasoned Data Strategist to spearhead cutting-edge AI initiatives in Melbourne.

About the Role

As a Data Strategist, you will oversee end-to-end solutions, driving problem definitions and designing experiments that inform data-driven decision making.

You will lead cross-functional teams in building and deploying models at scale, leveraging machine learning and deep user insights to transform job discovery experiences for millions.

Collaborating closely with AI Engineers, Product Managers, Designers, and fellow Data Scientists, you will shape impactful challenges and mentor less experienced team members.

The Team

Our Personalisation team sits within SEEK's AIPS group and plays a pivotal role in shaping candidate interactions with our products.

Our goal is to help users find the right opportunities faster by tailoring their experiences using behavioural signals, advanced machine learning, and deep user insights.

We design and deploy models that power intelligent content systems and personalisation engines, working in quarterly cycles to explore, prototype, and ship solutions that transform the job discovery experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to solve complex personalisation challenges aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with AI Product Managers, Software Engineers, and other Data Scientists to develop scalable and impactful solutions.
  • Take ownership of roadmap planning and technical direction for personalisation initiatives.
  • Influence the broader team through thought leadership, structured experimentation, and strong stakeholder engagement.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or applied AI roles.
  • Proven ability to lead the development and deployment of production-grade ML models.
  • Strong background in machine learning, statistics, and data analysis.
  • A Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and data science libraries such as Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
  • Hands-on experience with deep learning, ranking algorithms, or personalisation frameworks.
  • Deep experience with A/B testing, experimental design, and model evaluation techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
