About the Role

We are currently expanding our manufacturing operations to meet growing demand for armoured steel assemblies. As a skilled welder, you will be responsible for carrying out welding and inspection tasks on complex structural components in accordance with quality and safety standards.

  • Conduct welding operations to build high-quality armoured steel assemblies in accordance with specifications, tolerances, and required materials;
  • Observe proper guidelines for handling armoured steel, post-weld heat treatment, and checking of weld seams and dimensional accuracy;
  • Perform examinations and tests of welded assembly dimensions in accordance with requirements and planning as set by the welding engineer or supervisor;
  • Execute welding instructions, welding sequence, work, and procedural tests as specified in production working methods;
  • Read and interpret technical drawings of welded assemblies to determine specifications, tolerances, and required materials to carry out welding tasks;
  • Comply with specifications of tests during and after welding for parameters and temperatures, weld seam preparation, root gouging, welding sequence, use, and handling of filler metals, visual, dimensional, and non-destructive tests; and
  • Setup, operate, and maintain various welding equipment and tools (e.g. Welding torch, grinder, overhead hoist, cutter, measuring tools) in a safe and efficient manner.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade or equivalent Welders trade qualifications;
  • Experience working autonomously building complex structural components in a manufacturing environment;
  • Qualified with the use of MIG and TIG welding systems, including working with high-strength steels;
  • Strong understanding of complete welding fabrication of major assemblies;
  • Ability to read and understand specifications, technical drawings, work instructions, and test procedures of complex structural components and entire vehicles;
  • Crane Operation High Risk Work Licence (desirable);
  • Ability to travel internationally if need be for training (this will be a one-off occasion); and
  • The ability to gain and hold an Australia Defence Security Clearance (Australian Citizenship is needed as a minimum).
