A key role in our educational establishment is that of the Learning Specialist. This highly skilled professional focuses on delivering high-quality teaching and learning experiences.
- Demonstrating exceptional expertise in teaching and learning practice
- Modelling best-in-class classroom practice including through teaching demonstration lessons
- Working with our leadership team to develop a shared understanding of effective teacher practice
- Leading and modelling the implementation of whole-school improvement strategies related to curriculum planning and delivery
- Playing a vital role in the provision of professional learning, including through developing processes and protocols for observation and feedback of teacher practice and peer collaboration
- Modelling effective learning practice and supporting teachers to seek, analyse and act on feedback and on their practice
- Providing evidence-based feedback to teaching staff to inform their effectiveness and development
- Providing expert advice about the context, processes and strategies that will shape individual and school professional learning
- Supervising and training one or more student teachers and mentoring and/or coaching teachers
- Modelling exemplary use of student data to inform teaching approaches
- Developing and promoting school-wide professional learning structures, processes and protocols through Professional Learning Communities
The main responsibilities of the Learning Specialist include:
- Building Excellence: Building excellence in teaching and learning within the service.
- Improved Student Outcomes: Recognising the importance of exemplary practice for improved student learning outcomes.
- Leadership Role: Playing a key role in the provision of professional learning and leading the implementation of whole-school improvement strategies.
- Professional Development: Modelling effective learning practice and providing evidence-based feedback to teaching staff.
- Collaboration: Working with the leadership team to develop a shared understanding of effective teacher practice and supervising and training student teachers.
- Student Data Analysis: Modelling exemplary use of student data to inform teaching approaches.
To be successful as a Learning Specialist, you will need to have:
- A degree in education or a related field
- Proven experience in teaching and learning
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
