About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Diesel Fitter/Mechanic to join our dynamic team at Select Plant Australia. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, servicing, and repairing a diverse range of rail infrastructure and machinery.

The role will be based at our modern Laverton North Depot, where you will work collaboratively with our workshop and onsite teams to execute duties such as:

  • Performing skilled diagnostics, testing, maintenance, and repairs on rail infrastructure equipment.
  • Utilizing and maintaining small items of plant, equipment, and tools.
  • Scheduling and maintaining equipment within service interval schedules.
  • Attending onsite maintenance and breakdowns as required.
  • Adhering to site entry requirements and rules.
  • Traveling to support remote projects as needed.
  • Obtaining parts and consumables from the store manager and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Undertaking administrative responsibilities, including completion of standard workplace documentation.
  • Ensuring environmental compliance with waste products and cleaning.
About You

To be considered for this role, you will need to meet the following essential requirements:

  • Rail Industry Worker (RIW card) - MTM & ARTC.
  • Minimum 4+ years' experience as a Heavy Diesel Plant Mechanic.
  • Demonstrated experience working on rail machinery and infrastructure.
  • Construction Induction Card (Blue/White Card).
  • Australian Driver's Licence - Manual C Class minimum.
  • Valid High Risk Work Licence: LF (Forklift).
  • Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology, Heavy Diesel mechanics (or equivalent).
  • Unrestricted Australian Working Rights.
  • Valid First Aid certificate.
  • Well-rounded diagnostics skills across hydraulics, electrical, and mechanical systems.

Desirable qualifications include experience with Jackson Kershaw machinery, TMO - Track Machine Operator, and additional mechanical or rail certifications.

All candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment medical screening and a national criminal background check.
