About the Role

The Security and Estate Group (SEG) is seeking multiple Senior Policy Officers to support Defence's mission to defend Australia and its national interests. As a Senior Policy Officer, you will work independently exercising both initiative and judgement in the interpretation and application of policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the development and maintenance of policy documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures, templates, guidelines, and business rules, to ensure alignment with whole-of-government and Defence policy.
  • Apply experience to identify policy issues and conduct research to resolve them.
  • Build and sustain effective relationships with subject matter experts, Defence, government, and industry stakeholders to develop policy and advice.
  • Engage and motivate team members to participate in teamwork, group activities, and to establish effective working relationships.
  • Evaluate security policy issues, identify logic gaps, and initiate the development and assessment of recommendations.
  • Interpret policy, procedures, and guidelines to assess alignment with whole-of-government policy and provide advice to stakeholders.
  • Lead complex policy analysis and prepare work area plans, identifying risks and uncertainties, and detailing measurable milestones and expected outcomes.
  • Resolve problems using expertise, taking the initiative to identify alternative courses of action to achieve desired policy outcomes.

About the Team

The Security and Estate Group (SEG) comprises four divisions: Infrastructure, Service Delivery, Security, and Estate Transformation. SEG strengthens the links between security and the Defence Estate and supports Defence's mission and the integrated, focused force outlined in the 2024 National Defence Strategy.
