Job Overview

SUFY is seeking a dedicated and passionate Advocate to join our team. As an advocate, you will work closely with individuals with disability to empower them in achieving their goals and rights.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to social justice and human rights. You will be responsible for providing individual advocacy services to people with disability, supporting them to navigate complex systems and accessing necessary resources.

  • Provide individual advocacy services to people with disability, focusing on empowerment and self-advocacy.
  • Assist individuals in developing advocacy strategies and plans tailored to their needs and goals.
  • Negotiate with service providers and government agencies on behalf of clients, ensuring their rights are respected and protected.
  • Support clients in navigating complex systems, including healthcare, education, and social services.
  • Collaborate with other advocates and professionals to ensure comprehensive support for clients.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, monitoring client progress and outcomes.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will require:

  • A strong understanding of social justice, human rights, and disability advocacy principles.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with clients and stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, able to analyze complex situations and develop effective solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, maintaining confidentiality and discretion at all times.
  • Basic knowledge of legislation affecting people with disability, such as the Disability Discrimination Act.
  • Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
