About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Lawyer to join our Youth Crime team. As a key member of our team, you will provide legal services to children and young people with a focus on complex Youth Crime matters.

Key responsibilities include providing legal advice, complex casework, and advocacy in the Children's Court and related jurisdictions. You will also contribute to policy and law reform initiatives aimed at improving outcomes for young people in the justice system.

  • Job Description
    • You will appear in court and provide expert specialist advice and representation to children and young people charged with criminal offences.
    • You will work closely with other team members to achieve the best possible outcomes for our clients.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A current unrestricted Australian practising certificate which entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner.
  • Strong advocacy and casework experience in Youth Crime matters.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant law and court procedures; child protection experience is desirable.
  • The ability to support and mentor other legal staff and contribute to training initiatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with clients who are vulnerable or have complex needs.
