Job Overview

This pivotal role significantly contributes to Telstra's security posture. The successful candidate will have expertise in telecommunications, cloud security, automation, infrastructure as code (IaC), and cyber security.

The Senior Security Engineer will directly contribute to the protection and resilience of our Telco Cloud Networks by defining and operationalising security controls across cloud and network platforms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Embed secure-by-design principles into engineering processes, standards, and frameworks.
  • Lead the design, integration, and support diverse technologies that align with our strategic roadmap.
  • Enhance automation and CI/CD practices to improve delivery velocity and quality at scale.
  • Partner with business and technical stakeholders to ensure security solutions are practical and continuously improving.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers across different levels.
  • Evaluate and manage vendor solutions for secure and reliable delivery outcomes.
  • Document technical decisions and implementations to support knowledge sharing and operational excellence.
Requirements:
  • Solid experience in security engineering across networks, cloud, or DevSecOps environments.
  • Strong knowledge of: cloud-native and traditional network security, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), micro-segmentation and Zero Trust architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with telecommunications, TCP/IP, SDN, virtualised networks, automation and scripting such as Python.
  • Expertise in Telco Cloud platforms (e.g. OpenStack, CNIS, ECCD).
  • Proven ability to deploy security capabilities via automation and CI/CD.
  • Familiarity with Agile practices and tools.
  • Strong understanding of frameworks and standards such as SOCI, NIST, GSMA, 3GPP.
Nice to Have:
  • Experience with system hardening and best practice implementations.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Cloud Security, Cyber Security, Telecommunications, or Network Security, or equivalent industry experience.
  • CISSP, CCIE (Security), CompTIA Security+, or Cloud Security certifications.
  • Familiarity with Telstra's Cloud Security Guidelines.
