Exhibition Curator Job Description

The role involves conceiving, researching, planning and developing exhibitions that deliver a high-quality program.

Our ideal candidate will have tertiary qualifications in an applied arts or science area, combined with three to five years of curatorial experience in a museum or not-for-profit venue.

They must demonstrate excellent curatorial and research abilities, critical writing skills and a proven track record of original publication.

Additionally, they should have a strong understanding of material culture, its collection and care, as well as experience in reading and interpreting artefacts and recognising different understandings and interpretations.

The successful candidate will be able to link programs nationally and internationally across the museum sector and specific industries, ensuring a dynamic program is co-designed with industry and community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conceive, research, plan and develop exhibitions that deliver a high-quality program.
  • Develop and implement exhibition concepts that meet the program's goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure exhibitions are aligned with the museum's overall strategy.
  • Work with external partners to develop partnerships and collaborations that enhance the museum's reputation and impact.
  • Manage budgets and resources to deliver exhibitions on time and within budget.

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in an applied arts or science area.
  • Three to five years of curatorial experience in a museum or not-for-profit venue.
  • Excellent curatorial and research abilities.
  • Critical writing skills.
  • A proven track record of original publication.

Desirable Skills:

  • Strong understanding of material culture and its collection and care.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting artefacts and recognising different understandings and interpretations.

Working Arrangements:

This is a full-time position. The successful candidate will be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the program.
