The Mental Health Virtual Care Centre is a district-wide service delivering an evidence-based mental health rehabilitation program through a flexible mix of virtual and face-to-face care. The program empowers participants to strengthen their mental health, build resilience, and develop practical skills and support systems to improve daily functioning, quality of life, and overall independence, all within the comfort of their own home and community.
The centre offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join a skilled multidisciplinary team that includes occupational therapy, nursing, and peer support. Working on a part-time basis, the Consultant Psychiatrist will provide comprehensive psychiatric assessments, tailored interventions, and collaborative care planning in line with NICE Guidelines for Mental Health Rehabilitation for a low-volume caseload of participants.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to an innovative model of care that blends clinical excellence with flexibility, accessibility, and person-centred practice. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping recovery pathways and supporting participants to achieve meaningful, sustainable outcomes in their recovery journey.
- The primary location of this position may be varied as agreed with the Director of Medical Services and as approved by MDAAC to other facilities in the district.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Registration or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia;
- Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1973 and the relevant Award/Determination;
- Demonstrated subspecialty training in Psychiatry;
- Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position;
- Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective, high-quality service in the specialty, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position, including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty;
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students and other staff of the hospital;
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites;
- Demonstrated commitment to provision of a high standard of clinical care in the public sector setting;
- Demonstrated experience in and commitment to research relevant to the role and needs of the Department.
The successful candidate will have a passion for delivering high-quality care and contributing to the development of innovative models of care. They will be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
