Job Title: Production Manager
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Production Manager to lead our automated blending plant, packaging line, and warehouse operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for achieving Operational Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and maintaining safety targets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Production Plant Operation:
- Lead and support daily production operations, implementing changes and identifying opportunities for process improvements and innovation.
- Provide hands-on assistance to achieve daily production targets.
- Analyze plant equipment performance (OEE) daily and identify continuous improvement opportunities to enhance OEE, reduce manufacturing costs, and maintain quality.
- Deliver daily production schedules and ensure adherence to site scheduling performance indicators.
- Address machinery faults or breakdowns promptly and logically identify solutions.
- Monitor raw materials consumption and plan requirements for upcoming production shifts and the next 7 days.
- Undertake production activities in accordance with Quality Management System.
- Ensure the next shift starts and runs smoothly by pre-staging additives and bags, replenishing additive silos, cleaning machines and scales, performing maintenance tasks, and conducting cycle counts.
- Resolve and communicate issues impacting production schedules, such as raw material deliveries, additive supply, machinery breakdowns, spare parts, and labor resources.
- Coordinate cleaning, repairs, and maintenance of plant and equipment.
- Train employees in production and operator maintenance as required.
- Participate in projects to identify efficiency improvements and implement assigned actions.
- Relieve in all areas of production and warehousing when necessary.
- Warehousing Operation:
- Oversee day-to-day warehouse operations, addressing customer and staff issues promptly.
- Ensure regular servicing of forklifts and address items noted on daily operator checklists.
- Develop, monitor, and improve site traffic management plans and the safe and efficient loading of trucks with finished goods.
- Identify and implement opportunities to enhance the receival, checking, unloading, and storage of raw material/packaging deliveries.
- Workplace Health & Safety:
- Maintain a safe working environment and lead on all safety issues, ensuring no accidents or near misses.
- Comply with SH&E policies, procedures, and legislation, including safety meetings, toolbox talks, risk assessments, and workplace inspections.
- Ensure comprehensive induction support for new staff/contractors.
- Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure safe operation of forklifts, overhead hoists, and other key production equipment.
- Report all incidents and near misses and implement appropriate remedial actions.
- Team Leadership:
- Empower, develop, and engage Production team members to achieve results.
- Supervise daily operations to ensure the right product is produced safely, on time, and within budget.
- Provide coaching to improve overall performance and ensure team members understand and deliver their expectations.
- Collaborate with all business areas to ensure continuous improvement initiatives and practices meet business goals.
- Undertake employment practices that make team members feel valued and engaged, including recruitment, onboarding, performance, and exit practices.
- Maintain open communication with team members through 1:1 feedback/support discussions and team meetings.
- Facilitate team members' growth and development to support individual and business goals.
- Ensure team engagement through alignment and collaboration.
- Address work, health, and safety concerns promptly and ensure compliance with company policies and practices.
- Resolve personnel grievances and participate in meetings to ensure production plans are achieved.
Requirements:
- Hands-on problem-solving approach with superior fault-finding skills.
- Experience leading a small team.
- Ability to prioritize personal and team tasks.
- Physically fit to perform field duties, including lifting 25kg bags.
- Ability to build trust and develop working relationships.
- Superior problem-solving skills (collaborative, creative, analytical).
- Well-developed verbal (English) and written communication skills.
- Current driving license.
- Forklift license.
Desirable Qualifications/Attributes:
- First Aid qualification.
- Lean or Six Sigma qualifications.
- Problem Solving Techniques (e.g., Kepner Tregoe).
- Knowledge of Australian Industry standards.
