Job Title: Horticulturist

Job Description:

A rewarding opportunity to join our team as a Horticulturist. You will work as part of a team focusing on the maintenance and improvement of Council's Parks, Gardens, and landscaped areas, with a focus on Sylvan Grove Native Gardens.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain gardens including annuals, native & non-native plants, high-profile areas, traffic facilities and other landscaped areas in accordance with service requirements, service agreements, rosters and programs.
  • Provide recommendations for mulching, watering, maintenance, embellishment and improvement; implement as required.
  • Provide on-the-job skills development and training to staff.
  • Undertake risk and hazard assessments of areas under the crew's control and take corrective action where necessary.
  • Identify, report and rectify landscape deficiencies, especially in gardens and landscape maintenance.
  • Provide assistance and advice to Council, management, staff, customers and the community when necessary.
  • Ensure all works under the position holder's control are completed within timeframes.
Requirements:
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Horticulture or a similar field
  • Current Class C Drivers Licence
  • Chemical Users Accreditation Certificate or equivalent
  • Experience in gardens maintenance
  • Skills and experience necessary to fulfil the role, responsibilities, duties and competency requirements of the position
