Senior Legal Counsel Job Description

We are seeking a senior legal counsel to provide expert guidance on business banking and corporate finance transactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing authoritative counsel on business banking, corporate finance, trade finance, and small business lending transactions.
  • Structuring, drafting, negotiating, and reviewing transaction documents to ensure they meet the company's objectives.
  • Identifying, assessing, and mitigating legal risks by working closely with credit, portfolio management, and external advisers.
  • Developing and maintaining legal templates, guidelines, and training materials for transaction teams.
  • Monitoring changes in banking and finance laws and regulations.
  • Advising on governance, risk frameworks, policies, and procedures related to financing transactions.
  • Collaborating with the broader legal team to deliver strategic and operational objectives.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience in banking and finance law, gained in-house at a large financial institution or within a top/mid-tier law firm.
  • Solid background in business banking, corporate finance, and trade finance, with exposure to risk participation and syndicated lending arrangements.
  • Proven drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Confidence in communicating complex legal issues to both legal and non-legal stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Current practicing certificate as a solicitor in New South Wales or equivalent Australian jurisdiction.
