As a Risk and Legal Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the organization's reputation and operations.

This senior position provides expert legal, governance, and risk management advice to senior leadership, staff, and the Board of Directors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and maintaining robust risk management frameworks and strategies.
  • Conducting thorough risk assessments and providing regular reports to the Board and senior leadership.
  • Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating complex contracts and agreements.
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance and managing compliance audits and regulatory queries.
  • Providing ongoing support with the governance of the contract management system.
  • Building a risk-aware culture within the organisation through training and communication.
Required Skills & Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Law, with current admission as a legal practitioner in Australia.
  • Additional qualifications in Risk Management, Governance, or Compliance are highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience (5+ years) in providing in-house legal counsel, preferably in a not-for-profit or membership organisation.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement organisational risk frameworks and management strategies.
  • Strong expertise in contract law and regulatory compliance, including drafting and negotiating complex agreements.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate legal and risk concepts into practical advice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders, including Boards.
  • Proven organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities within a part-time capacity.
  • Deep understanding of Australian governance, legal, and compliance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory landscape relevant to not-for-profit or membership organisations.
