About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Media Communications Coordinator to join our team at the Australian Federal Police. As a key member of our National Media team, you will play a critical role in driving our strategic external communications and managing a high-performing group of media professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of media specialists to deliver high-quality communications materials and outreach strategies to Australian and international media agencies.
  • Develop and implement effective messaging and communications plans to ensure the AFP's priorities, initiatives, and operational successes are effectively communicated to internal and external audiences.
  • Work in partnership with the Minister's office and other Commonwealth and jurisdictional stakeholders to develop and deliver media and communications materials.
  • Provide communications advice to AFP executive and ensure change management processes and procedures are executed effectively.
  • Manage and support the delivery of key media projects, including overseeing all phases of the project management lifecycle for major initiatives and cross-functional activities.
  • Cultivate an environment of high performance, responsiveness, and client service to position the centralised communication function as a centre of excellence.
  • Actively contribute to the focus and strategic direction of the AFP and manage complex media matters and responses.
Requirements
  • Australian citizenship at the time of application.
  • Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Proven ability to lead and engage high-performing teams.
  • Extensive experience managing multiple stakeholders, projects, and tasks simultaneously in a complex operating environment.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for change and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to be flexible and dynamic in response to changing priorities.
  • A high level of professionalism and attention to detail.
Desirable Skills and Experience
  • Formal qualification in journalism, communications, multimedia production, or more than 10 years of experience within these industries.
  • Experience in law enforcement, political processes, and the workings of the media.
