Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Regional Safety Specialist to provide strategic support for the safe and compliant operation of our sites across the Bowen Basin and Gailee Basin QLD.


About the Role

This role requires a results-driven individual who will provide hands-on support, coaching, and leadership to operational teams to ensure alignment with our safety management system (SHMS) and industry best practices.

The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of relevant health, safety, environment, explosive, and dangerous goods regulations. Experience in a mid-level or senior safety role, ideally within explosives and dangerous goods, is highly desirable.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of safety policies, standards, and procedures across the region.
  • Lead investigations of incidents and support root cause analysis.
  • Provide strategic safety support to regional leadership and operational sites.
  • Coach frontline leaders and personnel to embed a proactive safety culture.
  • Deliver safety training, audits, and assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations and standards.
  • Drive safety performance through data analysis, training, and employee engagement.
  • Facilitate environmental reporting and regulatory submissions.
  • Collaborate with site leaders on emergency preparedness and response planning.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and represent our business in safety forums when required.
  • Manage health-related matters, including work and non-work-related injuries, ensuring appropriate support, reporting, and rehabilitation processes are followed.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety preferred.
  • Experience in a mid-level or senior safety role, ideally within explosives and dangerous goods, is highly desirable.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant health, safety, environment, explosive, and dangerous goods regulations.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills.
  • Certification in safety (e.g., ISO Lead Auditor, Training and Assessment) is preferred.
  • Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator Accreditation.
  • Relevant Security Clearance.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently.
