About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Drainage Maintenance Engineer to join our team at Darebin City Council. As a key member of our infrastructure team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, functionality, and customer service excellence of our drainage infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct proactive and reactive inspections of drainage systems, including drainage pits, gross pollutant traps, and pipe cleans.
  • Apply technical knowledge to investigate, diagnose, and resolve drainage-related issues.
  • Manage work orders and provide timely responses to community requests and concerns regarding drainage.
  • Ensure high levels of customer service when interacting with the community, addressing concerns, and providing clear communication on drainage-related matters.
  • Oversee contractors to ensure compliance with Council standards.
  • Collaborate with developers, service authorities, and internal teams on drainage infrastructure projects.
  • Provide technical guidance on drainage maintenance and improvement initiatives.
  • Investigate and address flooding issues by implementing effective solutions within budgetary constraints.
  • Prepare technical reports, correspondence, and risk assessments for drainage infrastructure.
  • Implement immediate safety measures during inspections, including hazard identification and mitigation.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, such as the Local Government Act and associated codes.
  • Participate in capital works and operational projects, contributing to the planning and execution of drainage infrastructure upgrades.
Requirements
  • Civil Engineering Degree or relevant qualifications in a related field.
  • Experience in drainage maintenance and contract and/or project management.
  • Strong knowledge of local government regulations related to drainage.
  • Proven ability to communicate technical information to diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
