As well as controlling thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing in Western Australia, we operate the TAB which has more than 300 off-course retail outlets, a call centre and online betting services. A full-time Cadet Steward - Harness/Thoroughbred entry-level position is your gateway to joining a dynamic and dedicated team within a forward-thinking racing environment.

Hands-on experience over an 18-month traineeship will immerse you in all aspects of racing administration and stewardship. Learning by doing will gain invaluable knowledge through questioning, observing, and actively participating in racing activities. Integrity and standards will play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of thoroughbred racing in Western Australia, ensuring the industry's standards are upheld as per the Rules of Racing.

A day on the job will include learning all aspects and procedures in starting, clerk of scales, judging and betting supervision. Carry out administration duties as directed by the Chief Steward. Respond to telephone inquiries. Prepare for race meetings including checking race form, brands and markings, attending courses as designated and attend other code meetings when requested

You will be rewarded with a salary increase after successfully completing the first six months of your training, with further increases as you progress through the Cadet program. The commencement salary is $64,655 + super per annum increasing incrementally as you progress through the Cadet program.

The ideal candidate will have experience in an administrative office role, practical and theoretical knowledge of thoroughbreds would be an advantage, knowledge and understanding of the racing and wagering industry would be an advantage, well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, sound computer literacy skills - Microsoft Office / Windows environment, current Senior First Aid certificate would be an advantage, current 'C' class drivers' licence, and completion of Year 12.
