About the Role

The General Counsel will provide expert and strategic legal advice to the Information Commissioner, Right to Information Commissioner, Privacy Commissioner, and the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) on the operation of the RTI Act, the IP Act, and other related legislation.

The successful candidate will have proven experience delivering timely, accurate, and strategic legal advice to senior executives and management, with expertise in legal analysis, including statutory interpretation and administrative decision-making principles.

Key responsibilities include providing timely, accurate, and strategic legal advice to internal stakeholders on administrative law, regulatory, and corporate matters, as well as supporting the Information Commissioner with strategic stakeholder engagement activities and in parliamentary and legal hearings as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide timely, accurate, and strategic legal advice to the Information Commissioner, Right to Information Commissioner, Privacy Commissioner, and the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) on the operation of the RTI Act, the IP Act, and other related legislation.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and strategic legal advice to internal stakeholders on administrative law, regulatory, and corporate matters.
  • Support the Information Commissioner with strategic stakeholder engagement activities and in parliamentary and legal hearings as required.
  • Manage the provision of legal services outsourced to external providers, ensuring a quality service and value for money.
