Job Description

The Senior Manager, Conservation Science will be responsible for leading and driving the operations of the science function. This newly created role will be critical to aligning the science function to the organisation's strategy.

This is an ongoing Full-time position. The workplace is supportive of flexible work and work from home arrangements, but this role is based in the Melbourne CBD office and on-site presence is required.

As our ideal candidate, you will be passionate about landscape-level conservation, able to ensure integrity through a scientifically robust evidence-base, pragmatic and able to take a risk-based approach on issues like climate change and nature markets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and drive the operations of the science function
  • Align the science function to the organisation's strategy
  • Build scientific capability within the team and across the organisation
  • Communicate scientific concepts clearly and articulately to both a science and non-scientific audience
  • Work collaboratively as a subject matter expert and input into organisational decisions

However, as two-thirds of Victoria is privately owned, many of these species and their habitats are not currently getting the necessary protection.

We have since evolved into one of Victoria's primary land conservation organisations, with several tools to help people protect biodiversity on private land.

In 1978, we developed conservation covenants as a way to protect native plants and wildlife on private land, and we have now protected more than 58,000 hectares through over 1,300 perpetual conservation covenants.

We also purchased and preserved more than 59 properties across Victoria through our Revolving Fund, as well as currently owning and managing 44 properties that cover over 36,000 hectares of Victoria.
