Job Description

Maintenance officers will report to the Compliance Manager and work in an exciting hands-on role with a diverse range of activities, including rolling up sleeves, having good attention to detail, strong communication skills, and taking pride in quality standards.

This role ensures SIL houses are provided with timely, skilled, and customer-focused maintenance services.

Key responsibilities include performing necessary maintenance and repairs in SIL houses, scheduling contractors for maintenance-related work, conducting regular property inspections, home safety checks, and maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organized compliant SIL house.

Maintenance officers must also report potential safety hazards, provide a sustainable, safe, and highly operational environment for participants, ensure preventable maintenance schedules are adhered to, and respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner.

Additional duties include liaising with internal and external customers in a compassionate, helpful manner that reflects Care I Wish values.

Maintenance officers may be required to perform light labor duties, such as assembling furniture and setting up devices and white goods.


Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to promote a customer-focused service.
  • Ability to take direction from the manager and then act with minimal support to facilitate smooth operation of maintenance.
  • Ability to identify issues and determine repairs that are needed.
  • Ability to plan maintenance schedules.
  • Knowledge about electrical and plumbing systems.
  • Ability to understand technical manuals.
  • Ability to have a positive, flexible approach to the role according to the daily challenges.
  • Completing minor plumbing repairs - such as fixing dripping taps etc
  • Repairing and putting things together - Carpentry knowledge is crucial.
  • Basic electrical knowledge is crucial.
  • Working knowledge of machinery and equipment
  • Knowledge of widening doors, building Ramps, Plaster boarding patching, Flooring, Perspex installation, basic gardening, Lawn moving, Furniture moving and assembly, and Masonry are required.
