Job Opportunity:

 

The Coastal and Regional Oceanography group is seeking a researcher to contribute to regional physical oceanography research. The successful applicant will work with a dynamic team of researchers, including academics, postdocs, technical staff, and students, focusing on the East Australian Current and the dynamics of the continental shelf circulation along the coast of SE Australia.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To lead the NSW-IMOS oceanographic moorings sub-facility
  • Develop oceanographic data products (e.g., climatologies, statistics, trends)
  • Data processing, quality control, data dissemination, and real-time display

Requirements:

  • A PhD or equivalent experience in physical oceanography or related field
  • Analyzing and critically assessing oceanographic data, including QA/QC
  • Proficiency working with and organizing large geophysical datasets
  • Excellent programming ability, including proficiency in Matlab or Python, and NetCDF; and experience working in a Linux environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated capability in writing scientific and/or technical reports
  • Strong leadership skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • High level of self-motivation and ability to work independently
