Job Title: Medical Scientist

Job Summary


We are seeking an experienced medical scientist to join our team at Central Adelaide Local Health Network. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a high-quality diagnostic pathology service by applying scientific and technical knowledge and expertise.


Key Responsibilities



  • Contributes to the provision of a high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective diagnostic pathology service by applying scientific and technical knowledge and expertise.
  • Perform and evaluate a range of diagnostic techniques, including participation in problem definition, planning, execution, analysis, and reporting in conjunction with the key result areas of responsibility to ensure the optimised day-to-day operation of the service.
  • With consultation, contributes to the development, selection, and adoption of new techniques and methodologies.
  • Assists in training and supervision of medical and technical laboratory staff in routine and complex tests and tasks.
  • As required, contributes to the Department's teaching and research activities.
  • In consultation with the Unit head and Directorate Manager, contributes to the strategic direction of the discipline.

Essential Requirements



  • Current National Police Clearance (NPC).
  • Working With Children Check (DHS).
  • Immunisation screening as indicated in the role description.

Educational/Vocational Qualifications


The Requirements for Supervision in the Clinical Governance of Medical Pathology Laboratories (Fifth Edition 2018) by the National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC), defines a scientist as a person with competence to perform the functions required and who is authorised to perform these functions. A medical scientist must possess one of the following qualifications:



  2. A degree at Australian Qualifications Framework level 7 awarded from a university in Australia with >70% of subjects relevant to the field of pathology of a 3-year degree.
  3. A degree at Australian Qualifications Framework level 7 with subjects relevant to the field of pathology awarded by an overseas tertiary institution if the qualification is assessed as equivalent to a degree accredited by the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists.
  4. An associate qualification conferred by the Australian Institute of Medical Technologists before 1 December 1973.
