Societe Generale Assurances is seeking a highly motivated Summer Clerk - Legal to join our team in Sydney, Australia. This exciting opportunity offers a paid 4-week internship in our Legal department, providing hands-on experience in a fast-paced global organization.
About the RoleThe Legal team is responsible for delivering legal advice services across various businesses located in the Societe Generale Sydney office. As a Summer Clerk, you will work closely with senior professionals, learning basic legal skills and cultivating key competencies such as drafting, transaction management, and legal research.
This role provides an excellent entry point to a legal career in banking and finance, offering exposure to a range of banking and finance areas. Upon completion of the internship, you may opt to pursue graduate in-house legal roles or private practice with initial professional experience.
Responsibilities- Provide legal advice covering a range of responsibilities from drafting, negotiation, and review of related documentation to advising on the interpretation of laws and regulations.
- Liaise with external counsel and stay up-to-date on developments and changes in the regulatory sector affecting the Australian business.
- Assist in updating internal guidelines and procedures.
- Current student in Law (completing their second last year of studies) and another discipline (e.g., Arts, Commerce, Economics, or Science).
- Pre-graduate experience in a financial or legal institution is desirable but not necessary.
- Strong ability in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, and Microsoft Office generally.
- Knowledge and understanding of Australian laws, regulations, and guidelines in relation to banking and financing activities and a working knowledge of related areas of law and regulatory environment.
- Proven analytical skills, including the ability to apply legal analysis to different fact patterns.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex financial and legal issues.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop working relationships with business teams in Sydney and the wider APAC region.
- Curious and keen to learn, with a genuine interest in the banking sector.
