Job Description

A teaching and research academic in applied mathematics is required to contribute to the development of scholarly research and professional expertise relevant to the profession or discipline. The academic will undertake independent teaching and research in applied mathematics, make an independent contribution through professional practice and expertise, and coordinate and/or lead the activities of other staff as appropriate to the discipline.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to teaching, including unit coordination, preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, seminars, setting and marking assessments.
  • Develop and practice innovative teaching and learning methods.
  • Contribute to research, individually and as a member of a team, and produce quality publications.
  • Seek external research funds, individually and as a member of a team.
  • Supervise honours, Masters and HDR students.
  • Contribute to the School, College, the University, and the profession through service and their promotion.

Requirements
  • A PhD in an area relevant to the appointment (i.e. mathematics or a closely related discipline).
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching in the discipline areas, the flexibility to a range of content, and two or more years of postdoctoral or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under broad direction only, exercise excellent organised work habits, initiative and work effectively as a team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in high quality independent research, with an established record of scholarly publications.
  • Demonstrated capacity to produce high quality research funding applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise honours, postgraduate and/or HDR students.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary approaches to curriculum and pedagogy.
