Head of Cloud Platforms Job Overview

This leadership role involves leading cloud teams to develop, manage and scale cloud-based services. The right candidate will shape the company's cloud strategy, enhance its offerings and ensure the reliability and security of cloud platforms.

The Head of Cloud Platforms will be responsible for strategic leadership, cloud infrastructure management, security, risk management and compliance, platform stability and performance optimisation, cost optimisation and budget oversight, communication and collaboration, team development and leadership, and vendor management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with the CTO and key stakeholders to contribute to and execute the overall technology strategy.
  • Lead and drive key initiatives related to cloud migration, adoption and operations
  • Cloud Infrastructure Management: Oversee the design, implementation and maintenance of a robust and scalable cloud infrastructure.
  • Ensure the availability, performance and security of all cloud components, including servers, networks and storage.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging cloud technologies and assess their applicability to the organisation's needs.
  • Security, Risk Management and Compliance: Ensure that our cloud platforms adhere to internal security policies and external regulatory requirements.
  • Take ownership for cloud-specific information security policies and controls to ensure they are effective and continuously improving.
  • Platform Stability and Performance Optimisation: Continuously improve the performance and reliability of cloud services, addressing any issues promptly.
  • Use cloud incidents and outages as an opportunity to learn and improve the reliability and effectiveness of the cloud environment and supporting processes.
  • Cost Optimisation and Budget Oversight: Optimise cloud costs by monitoring resource usage and implementing cost-saving measures.
  • Develop and manage the cloud services budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and cost-effectiveness.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Effectively communicate technology strategies and updates to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other department heads to ensure seamless integration of technology services with overall business operations.
  • Team Development and Leadership: Oversee the healthy growth and development of the team, including identifying and hiring new talent.
  • Build the culture and engagement of staff through effective people leadership and management.
  • Vendor Management: Manage relationships with cloud vendors and service providers, ensuring cost-effectiveness and high-quality service delivery.
  • Evaluate and select technology solutions that align with organisational requirements and standards.
  • Oversee the procurement, tracking and management of software licenses to ensure compliance with legal requirements and optimise licensing costs.
Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge:
  • Proven experience in a leadership role overseeing cloud platform management and strategy.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity and experience with industry best practices, emerging technologies and trends in cloud technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
  • Budget management and vendor relationship management experience.
  • Strong people focus with a preference for team success over individual achievements.
  • Low ego and high Emotional Intelligence (EQ)
