As a Mechanical Engineer with the Australian Defence Force, you will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of Defence Ground and Aviation Systems.
Your day-to-day tasks will involve the diagnosis, service, and repair of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical components on various Defence assets, including Defence plant, aircraft arrestor systems, small arms weapons systems, heavy vehicles, and aviation ground support equipment.
You will be responsible for:
- Manufacture of tools, jigs, dies, fixtures, and gauges
- Repair and modification of selected Ground and Aviation components
- Safe operation of the ground and aviation fuel installations
- Safe operation of the aircraft Arrestor System on Defence airfields and sites
As you progress through your career, advanced training may be available in the use of conventional and computer numerical controlled machines to facilitate and support the manufacture, modification, and refurbishment of aviation components.
Your duties as a Mechanical Engineer are critical to Air Force operational effectiveness and directly support capability outcomes. You will use your critical thinking and judgement whilst conducting the roles, tasks, and responsibilities that support maintenance to ensure the continued integrity of Defence Ground and Aviation Systems.
