About the Role

Australian Red Cross is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as an Emergency Services Officer. In this role, you will contribute to our strategic impact of supporting communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide operational support to ensure Red Cross operational processes, procedures, and practices required in emergency response are appropriate, documented, and implemented.
  • Support Emergency Services during disaster response service delivery and engage with stakeholders to ensure all contractual obligations are met.
  • Assist in reporting on Emergency Services programs, including during activations time.
  • Provide operational support for the consistent roll out and delivery of projects, primarily focused on the planning, design, development, and overall project coordination of key Emergency Services quality and continuous improvement priorities.
  • Deliver specialised project work, which includes but is not limited to analysis, interpretation, design, development, review, and evaluation of work practices, policy, and procedures on set prescribed pieces of work.
  • Provide leadership for Volunteers through engagement, capacity building, coaching, advocacy, and provision of advice, and support Volunteers to deliver services that help people before, during, and after disasters.
  • Use a community development approach to build local partnerships, facilitate, and strengthen relationships between emergency services agencies, government, service providers, and organisations and communities to support the delivery of programs and projects that build community resilience.
Requirements
  • Relevant four-year degree with one-year relevant experience or three-year degree with two years of relevant experience or lesser formal qualifications with substantial years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in emergency management, project management, or community engagement and/or community development.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver outputs within specified time frames, including comprehensive project management skills that encompass planning, coordination, financial oversight, and successful execution of projects from inception to completion.
  • Strong ability to set priorities, plan, and organize work effectively—both independently and for other staff and/or volunteers as required—while demonstrating exceptional attention to detail in all tasks and processes.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in managing projects, overseeing volunteer teams, or developing community resilience programs, with a focus on planning, execution, and continuous improvement. Proven ability to apply this knowledge in real-world settings, ensuring successful outcomes.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to assess, evaluate, and solve problems, while working autonomously with a high degree of responsibility and accountability for decisions and outcomes.
  • Good interpersonal skills, presentation skills, and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Working with children check.
