Job Description

Canonical is seeking a highly skilled Software Maintenance Engineer to join our dynamic team.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Linux and open source software, with experience in programming languages such as Python, Go, C, or C++.

As a Software Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, or Kubernetes.

You will work closely with our Field, Support, and product engineering teams to ensure seamless collaboration and effective issue resolution.

Additionally, you will participate in upstream communities, develop bug fixes, backport patches, and work with upstream for inclusion.

The role also involves reviewing code produced by other engineers, demonstrating good judgment in technical methods and techniques, prioritizing work, and managing your time effectively.

Lastly, you will maintain clear, technical, and concise communications, and participate in team discussions to improve processes, tools, and documentation.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Exceptional academic track record
  • Background in Computer Science, STEM, or similar
  • Experience with Linux and open source software
  • Experience with at least one of Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux
  • Drive to learn unfamiliar technology and deep-dive difficult issues
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events
