Role Overview
Mind Australia, a leading provider of community-managed psychosocial services, supports individuals experiencing mental health and wellbeing challenges in rural communities.
The organisation operates for over 45 years, employing more than 1,300 staff across Australia, and is a significant employer of people with lived experience of mental health challenges.
This role requires a compassionate and motivated Counsellor to deliver outreach counselling and mental health support to farmers, their families, and rural communities affected by prolonged drought in the Eyre and Far North region.
The successful candidate will provide brief, trauma-informed counselling interventions to individuals and families experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges related to drought.
They will also engage with and maintain trust-based relationships with farmers, local leaders, and community groups, and collaborate with local stakeholders to understand community needs and priorities.
Key responsibilities include delivering crisis support to individuals in acute distress, facilitating referrals to emergency services when necessary, and maintaining accurate records and reports.
Required skills and qualifications include tertiary qualifications in Mental Health, Peer Work, Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or other health-related fields, and demonstrated experience in delivering mental health support in rural or agricultural settings.
