About the role
We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Counsellor for a fixed-term, full-time position until 30 June 2026 to deliver outreach counselling and mental health support to farmers, their families, and rural communities affected by prolonged drought across Port Lincoln and the Eyre and Far North region.
Provide outreach counselling to farmers and rural communities experiencing stress and mental health challenges related to prolonged drought
Full-time position until 30 June 2026, with the option of part-time (4 days per week) for the right candidate.
Base Salary from $88,090 + 12% Super & Benefits | Monday to Friday
Outreach-base role across Port Lincoln and the Eyre and Far North region

Key responsibilities
Deliver brief, trauma-informed counselling interventions to individuals and families experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges related to drought
Provide crisis support to individuals in acute distress, including those at risk of self-harm or suicide, and facilitate referrals to emergency services when necessary
Engage with and maintain trust-based relationships with farmers, local leaders, and community groups, and collaborate with local stakeholders to understand community needs and priorities
Facilitate group sessions focused on stress management, resilience, and peer support tailored to rural community needs
Collaborate with local service providers to coordinate holistic care and strengthen referral pathways
What you'll bring
Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Peer Work, Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or other health-related field
Demonstrated experience in delivering mental health support in rural or agricultural settings, is highly desirable
Strong knowledge of trauma-informed practices, mental health recovery, and care coordination
Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with service providers, clinical teams and key stakeholders
Ability to work independently across a regional area (unrestricted driver's licence and own vehicle required)
