Job Summary:
The Department of Education QLD is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead the Special Education Services team at Western Cape College. As the Head of Special Education Services, you will play a critical role in improving the educational outcomes of students with disabilities, developing the quality of teaching and learning, and nurturing positive relationships between students, teachers, and the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the College inclusion journey: Enact the vision of every child succeeding through high-quality inclusive education across K-12.
- Build capability: Develop the skills of team members to deliver quality teaching practices across Weipa Primary, Secondary, and Mapoon campuses.
- Lead collaboration: Facilitate the collaboration of teaching teams to ensure students are engaged and improving in their learning.
- Lead identified College-wide systems: Ensure students are supported in accordance with relevant legislation and departmental policies.
- Lead coordination: Coordinate the access to departmental support staff and external agencies to maximize student and staff support across the College.
- Lead NDIS service providers: Implement therapies at school processes.
- Collaborate with leadership team: Facilitate levels of support for all students.
- Form partnerships: Develop positive partnerships with parents, DoE, and external service providers for the benefit of all students.
- Lead professional learning: Develop and deliver professional learning for all staff in inclusive education.
- Enact improvement agenda: Implement the explicit improvement agenda of Western Cape College and State Schooling.
- Understand legislation and policies: Stay up-to-date with the legislation and policies that impact schooling, especially in relation to students with disabilities.
- Manage resources: Manage the human, financial, facilities, and curriculum resources of the unit to achieve goals.
Requirements:
- Leadership experience: Proven experience in leading teams and developing the skills of others.
- Special education expertise: Strong knowledge of special education principles and practices.
- Communication skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Collaboration skills: Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies.
- Problem-solving skills: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
