Aboriginal Health Worker, Alcohol Support Specialist

Job DescriptionThe Aboriginal Health Worker will play a vital role in the Queanbeyan Alcohol and Other Drugs Hub, working to improve health outcomes and reduce harm associated with drug and alcohol use for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver practical support through community engagement, health promotion, and identifying and addressing barriers to access.
- Facilitate warm referrals and work collaboratively with the Queanbeyan AOD team and external service providers to maximise care outcomes for consumers.
- Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be an active member within the Aboriginal communities of the Queanbeyan and surrounding areas.
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, and/or extensive experience in Aboriginal health, AOD, mental health, community services, or social sciences.
- Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal people and their health, including AOD, and the ability to effectively engage and communicate to address their health needs.
- Knowledge and understanding of the principles of harm minimization and recovery-focused support gained through experience, education, and/or training.
- Experience in developing and maintaining successful partnerships with Aboriginal organisations and communities.
