Job Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled professional to join our interdisciplinary research team as a Research Associate.

This role involves conducting cutting-edge research using modern and ancient DNA, with a focus on sediment-hosted samples.

The successful candidate will collaborate with the Environmental Genomics Initiative and the State Herbarium of South Australia, contributing to fieldwork and sediment analysis, student supervision, and synthesising project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting high-quality research in paleoecology, climate change, and environmental science.
  • Collaborating with experts in botany, fire ecology, landscape ecology, and other relevant disciplines.
  • Developing and implementing research projects, including data collection, analysis, and publication.
  • Synthesising research findings to inform sustainable fire management and biodiversity conservation.
  • Communicating research results through presentations, publications, and reports.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant field (e.g., paleoecology, climate science, environmental biology).
  • Proven experience in DNA analysis, particularly in the context of Quaternary sediments.
  • Strong understanding of paleoecological principles and their application to environmental management.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more scientific disciplines, such as botany, fire ecology, landscape ecology, palaeoecology, climate change, or similar.
