About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled individual to join our team as a Red Shield Defence Services Representative. This is a permanent full-time position located in Palmerston, NT.

The successful candidate will be a trained specialist with expertise in recognising and focusing on the spiritual, pastoral and welfare needs of others. As a spiritual practitioner, they will work in partnership with other professional staff to provide holistic support to veterans, both currently and ex-serving.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide spiritual and pastoral care, encouraging individuals to explore their spirituality and move forward in their personal faith journey.
  • Collaborate with local corps and mission expression personnel and Defence chaplains to create faith pathways, connecting individuals to local corps or other faith communities.
  • Provide a pastoral response, in conjunction with specialist formal debriefing, to those impacted by critical incidents.
  • Conduct and facilitate Christian ceremonies and services as required, according to the rites of The Salvation Army.
  • Assist Defence personnel or other stakeholders in understanding The Salvation Army theology, mission, and culture, encouraging the use of a sacred space for holistic, spiritual, and religious needs.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings as requested, as a professional spiritual practitioner.
Qualification Requirements
  • Diploma of Chaplaincy or Foundations course (mandatory).
  • Relevant qualifications in theological studies (preferred).
  • Positive Lifestyle Program (PLP) Facilitator training (mandatory).
  • Mental Health First Aid (mandatory).
  • Meets the yearly credentialing requirements of the Territorial Chaplaincy Support Unit (TCSU) to be registered as a TSA Chaplain.
  • Regular attendance at a Christian place of worship.
  • Working With Children Check.
