About the Role

The Aboriginal Mental Health Liaison Officer position plays a vital part in supporting Indigenous individuals and families accessing mental health services.

This role acts as a bridge between consumers, families, and healthcare providers, ensuring access to appropriate care while advocating for culturally informed treatment and fostering trust throughout the mental health journey.

Responsibilities include planning and coordinating admissions, treatment pathways, case management, referrals, discharge processes, and follow-up care. This involves working across hospital and community settings to deliver respectful, culturally safe, and responsive care.

Key Qualifications
  • Must be of Indigenous descent.
  • Hold a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Indigenous concept of social and emotional wellbeing.
  • Understanding of child protection principles within NSW Health.
  • Possess effective written and verbal communication skills.

A successful applicant will require a Working With Children Check and National Police Check prior to commencing employment.
