Job Title: Technical Officer Scientific

This is an excellent opportunity for those with qualifications in Animal Care and relevant work experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop teaching aids to assist with practical assessment tasks, demonstrations, and theory classes.
  • Care for and maintain animals/livestock according to animal welfare guidelines.
  • Prepare equipment and materials required by students and staff for classes and coordinate work priorities.
  • Provide technical expertise in specific areas of competency relevant to the section's needs.
  • Demonstrate the use of equipment/instruments and techniques in laboratories, classrooms, and workshops to educational staff.
  • Develop and write standard operating procedures (SOPs) for support staff tasks undertaken in the section.
  • Assist with ordering and receiving consumables, minor plant, and equipment required by the section.
  • Distribute and collect equipment and materials for class conduct.
  • Maintain, service, and operate equipment and instruments within the section area as needed.
  • Arrange specialist repairs and maintenance to equipment.
  • Secure tools, equipment, materials, and other TAFE property within a section.
  • Carry out general housekeeping associated with areas used in class service, including staff disposal of equipment and materials.
  • Process documentation relevant to the section and position.

Essential Requirements:

  • Relevant Trades Certificate IV or Diploma with at least 3 years' experience and demonstrated capacity for the type of work involved or equivalent qualifications/experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience of equipment and materials used within the Section relevant to the classification.
  • Ability to identify and maintain tools, equipment, and machinery used within the area of employment, including fault detection.
  • Proficiency in using a computer and knowledge of software packages relevant to the area of employment.
  • Able to work independently and as an effective team member.
  • High level communication, organisational, and customer service skills.
