About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior SOE Engineer to join our team in Canberra. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for managing and monitoring the Standard Operating Environment (SOE) and related activities.

Key responsibilities
  • Manage and monitor the SOE and related activities, ensuring seamless delivery of desktop and mobility solutions.
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance on the implementation of desktop and mobility solutions, including impacts to end-user experience.
  • Provide 3rd level SOE support for desktop-related problem management cases, acting as an escalation point within the services team.
  • Document as-built configurations and deploy updates or patches to maintain a secure and efficient environment.
  • Maintain and implement Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) Essential Eight (E8) security controls and associated services in relation to the SOE.
  • Work with the Cyber Security team to provide assurance on the effectiveness of E8 controls.
Required skills and qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of End User Windows Operating Systems, Traditional networking, and Azure cloud services.
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience in deploying or supporting Microsoft Intune.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and W365.
  • Strong experience in SOE maintenance, updates, and enhancements of environment-wide configurations, including user policies, device policies, security policies, firmware, drivers, and automation scripts through enterprise-grade endpoint management platforms (Intune).
  • Microsoft Azure Proficiency: Strong experience in deploying or supporting the following Microsoft Azure technologies:
    • Entra ID
    • VNET/Subnet
    • VM Compute Gallery
  • Directory Services & Automation: Highly skilled in:
    • Active Directory
    • PowerShell scripting
    • Group Policy Management
    • DHCP
    • DNS
    • NPS
  • Proven experience in a Level 3 support role, preferably within an enterprise environment.
  • Strong knowledge of the ACSC ISM and ACSC Essential 8 (particularly Maturity Level 2).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
