SGS is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chemist to join our team in Darwin. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for coordinating and deploying resources for sampling and testing of in-process, environmental, and utilities facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Sampling and Testing: Under the guidance of our Laboratory Analyst and scheduled program requirements, you will coordinate and deploy resources for sampling and testing of in-process, environmental, and utilities facilities.
- Instrument Operation and Maintenance: You will operate, calibrate, and conduct routine maintenance of analytical instruments with a high degree of precision, including gas chromatography, induction coupled plasma, ion chromatography, auto titrators, and UV/Vis photometry.
- Record Keeping and Reporting: You will maintain laboratory records in a systematic and logical manner, including calibration records, analytical results, test reports, and maintenance records in our CoP intranet and LabLYNX LIMS system.
- Trend Data and Reporting: You will generate custom trend data and reports using a combination of LabLYNX and MS Office programs.
- Plant Sampling and Safety: You will safely operate plant sampling stations for liquefied hydrocarbons, low- and high-pressure hydrocarbon gases, cryogenic liquids, and hazardous aqueous liquids.
- Procedure Development: You will assist with the development of analytical procedures, applying systematic knowledge integration from different sources.
- Custody Transfer Analysis: You will conduct custody transfer analysis of LNG products with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Laboratory Stock Control: You will assist with laboratory stock control and maintain adequate notification based on anticipated usage.
- Safety and Quality: You will actively participate in our CoP safety programs and undertake methodical job hazard analysis activities regarding sample collection and analytical chemistry.
- Reporting and Communication: You will provide monthly activity reports on contract KPIs, instrument status, analysis summary, and off-site testing activities.
- Qualifications: Tertiary qualification in chemistry or a related discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience in an oil and gas industry laboratory with particular experience in sampling and analytical testing of liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons.
- Instrument Operation and Maintenance: Experience in the operation, optimization, and basic maintenance of analytical instruments, particularly gas chromatography, ion chromatography, UV/Vis photometry, and ICP instruments.
- Sampling and Safety: Experience and hazard awareness associated with operating live gas plant sampling stations and familiarity with the application of different sampling configurations.
- NATA/ISO 17025 Accreditation: Understanding of NATA/ISO 17025 accreditation and the requirements for a chemical testing laboratory and experience in the use of a LIMS.
- Physical Fitness: Physically fit due to required tasks and responsibilities.
- Site Access Requirements: Meet site access requirements, including training, induction, and medical requirements.
