About the RoleThe Operational Decarbonisation team at BHP is responsible for delivering the company's decarbonisation programs in Minerals Australia. As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the operation of the Caterpillar Early Learner battery truck project at our Jimblebar Mine. This project aims to demonstrate the safe and efficient operation of the Early Learner and its supporting high-power charging infrastructure, ahead of planned further adoption across BHP.
Key Responsibilities- Support the readiness and operation of the Caterpillar battery-electric haul truck project engineering, construction, and operation
- Proactively identify safe work practices and events/hazards procedures and operating standards to contribute to a safe working environment
- Follow risk management processes, support risk assessments, HAZID, and material risk management tools to keep our people safe
- Collaborate with the project and cross-functional teams to resolve deep technical issues and reach consensus with subject matter experts in our governance and technical stewardship teams
- Support investigations of problems and using planned and structured approaches
We are looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer with a strong background in project and operations management. You will have a degree in Electrical Engineering and preferably be a CPEng. You will also have at least 5 years of experience in a mining operation, with experience with fixed and heavy mobile equipment (electrically propelled earth-moving machinery) being highly advantageous. You will have knowledge of standards and regulations associated with electrical design, installation, and testing.
